The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and a fifty-mile expressway, including one of the world's longest over-water bridges (Bay Bridge) as well as the widest underwater highway vehicular tunnel ever built by the immersed-tube method (Fort McHenry Tunnel). The Maryland Transportation Authority is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Structures Manager to lead the Office of Engineering's Structures Division. This critical management position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Engineering, and will also have frequent contact with the Director of Engineering and the Chief Engineer. Structure types that you will be working on include retaining walls, highway tunnels, vent buildings, high mast light poles, cantilever and overhead sign structures, fixed span bridges, a movable bridge [bascule girder], and the State's most complex signature structures (i.e., Bay Bridge [main span is suspension cable], Key Bridge [suspended span thru truss], Tydings Bridge [deck truss], Fort McHenry Tunnel [submersed tube], etc.). Responsibilities also include management of large consultant engineering contracts; large capital budget allocations; and supervision of multi-discipline Professional Engineers (PE), Engineers-In-Training (EIT) engineers, and engineering technicians. The position is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight of all aspects of structures design, construction, inspection and remedial engineering projects, including performing detailed condition assessments, repair recommendations, complex structural repair designs and plans, specifications and estimate preparation, tracking of all structural defects, structural capacity load rating calculations, infrastructure asset management, planning studies, managing the Authority's preventative maintenance, restoration and preservation, rehabilitation and replacement programs, and managing the Structural Health Program. This position is responsible for directing various multi-million dollar projects from concept through construction. In addition to coordinating with state contract procurement for construction projects, this position also provides oversight and selection of consultant engineering contracts. Duties will also include division Operating and Capital budget development and control, consultant resource management and procurement, development and review of the Authority's long-range capital needs for the division, developing and reviewing divisional policies and procedures, and tracking of project schedules. This position may also be required to provide occasional presentations to senior management, industry and public groups. This position is primarily in an office environment (not field). The current vacancy is located in Dundalk, Maryland in Baltimore County.
Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at time of appointment.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer. Two (2) years of this experience must include managing structures engineering projects.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
An applicant's current license as a Professional Engineer in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, in the appropriate option for which application is made, will be accepted but the applicant must obtain a Maryland Professional Engineer license within twelve (12) months of appointment. Evidence of out of state license must be presented at time of appointment. Applicants must possess a Class C Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.
