Progressive AE has an opening for an experienced Transportation/Traffic Engineer to develop and grow its transportation group in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Within 2 years, a successful candidate will be expected to grow into and take on the Lead Transportation Engineer role.
The Transportation Engineer II is responsible for the analysis, reporting, design and planning of transportation facilities and projects for private and public sector clients. The position’s work encompasses a variety of traffic and transportation engineering projects but primarily regarding corridor/intersection analyses and design, traffic impact studies (Synchro experience required), traffic calming and complete streets plans, and possibly traffic signal design (MDOT experience preferred).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as an affinity for using/learning new software applications. The ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplined team is essential.

The Transportation Engineer II may also assist in municipal and site design engineering projects.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Maintain an understanding of current transportation market conditions and assist the Lead Engineer in looking for opportunities for projects from existing and new clients. This includes tracking and responding to publicly posted Requests for Proposals, and well as responding to invitations to bid from existing clients.
Develop project budgets for proposals, manage projects through design, and process monthly invoices to clients for work on projects.
Maintain an understanding of Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) policies and procedures as they relate to project analyses, design, and project management. This includes attending MDOT Consultant design meetings, signing up for MDOT website updates and changes, communicating with MDOT staff and processing MDOT invoices.
Collect data, as well as manage other staff to collect data, and prepare reports pertaining to traffic impact studies, traffic signal warrant analyses, intersection safety, occupancy and origin-destination studies.
Perform special assignments as directed by the Lead Transportation Engineer.
Assist with the ongoing development and expansion of the Transportation Group.
Education: Possession of a Bachelors Degree in an engineering related field. Maintains a Professional Engineer (PE) license and Professional Transportation Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of traffic operations analyses with 3-5 years of business development.
Other Requirements: Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Synchro, MicroStation, MERL, SAPW, and FieldManager. Possession of a valid driver's license. Strong organizational, planning, customer service, and communication skills.
