CN is seeking a qualified individual possessing direct experience with the construction, remediation and/or inspection of railway bridges. The assigned territory includes Northern Indiana, Southern Michigan and Northwest Pennsylvania. Responsible for identifying structural distress, condition ranking of bridge members and components, maintenance and accuracy of the bridge inspection and plant inventory databases. Critical performance areas include the following:
Inspection of steel, concrete and timber bridges and culverts.
Prepare accurate condition reports for bridges and other structures for the purposes of repair.
Ensure bridges and other railway structures are inspected in accordance with FRA Part 237 regulations and approved railway standards.
Apply CN policies and the 5 guiding principles.
Work is primarily outdoors in varying types of weather.
Working at heights.
Moderate travel requirements (approx. 35% of the time), including overnight stays away from home.
May be required to respond to emergency situations on any day of the year.
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Railway Bridge Inspector, or 3 years experience as Railway Bridge Foreman (or equivalent maintenance experience with railway bridges and associated components.)
High school diploma or GED.
Valid CDL license with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain within 3-months.
Ability to visually identify defects in structural steel, concrete and timber super and substructures.
CN USOR and OTS certified.
Fall Protection and Rescue certified.
Good computer skills; working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and ability to learn data entry into Equipment Plant Inventory and Bridge Condition System databases.
Must be disciplined, accountable and self-motivated to succeed.
The ideal candidate profile:
5+ years experience as a Railway Bridge Inspector, or extensive maintenance experience with railway bridges and associated components.
Construction Technology, Associates and/or Bachelors degree.
