Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct various engineering studies, investigations, and analyses; participate in the preparation of reports, such as feasibility and planning studies.
Prepare engineering specifications, drawings, sketches, and other supporting documentation for proposed engineering projects; review drawings, plans and other work submitted by external consultants, engineers, and contractors for conformance with professional codes, standards, and District specifications; draft and prepare technical and administrative correspondence and reports.
Perform and review engineering design analyses and calculations and prepare cost estimates for proposed projects. Collect, compute and compile engineering data, statistics, and surveys; conduct field work. Develop and maintain computer files and use engineering software to solve specific engineering problems or complete engineering analyses.
Coordinate with outside agencies, private parties, and consultants to obtain approvals required for project work. Review statutes and regulations; interpret and apply the regulations with respect to District compliance. Participate in and coordinate regulatory, environmental and/or construction permit activities.
Provide engineering support on construction projects; assist in the inspection of contractor installations as necessary; provide technical support during construction including design changes, submittal review, request for information from contractors, interpretation of contract documents and assistance with change orders.
Ideal candidate's background includes:
2+ years as an Assistant Engineer I (Civil) or similar in completing assignments related to the planning, design and/or construction of water utility facilities such as water treatment plants, pumping plants, and pressure pipelines.
Completing engineering design calculations such as pipeline hydraulics and pipe sizing, pipe external loading, pump selection, valve selection and sizing.
In using H2ONET, AutoCAD Civil3D or similar engineering software is a plus.
Drinking water treatment, including the design and construction of treatment systems and distribution systems.
Principles and practices of civil engineering with emphasis on water supply, storage, treatment and distribution systems and facilities.
Principles of closed conduct pressure pipeline hydraulic systems, structural design, and water treatment systems and facilities fundamentals.
Exercise sound judgment within procedural guidelines.
Effectively communicate (both verbal and written communication).
Interpret and apply Federal, State and Local policies, laws and regulations.
Prepare and review civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications and other engineering project documentation, such as technical memos.
Work collaboratively in a team.
Collaborate and work effectively with different groups of people in the organization.
Two years of professional engineering experience at a level equivalent to that of the Assistant Engineer I (Civil) classification.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.
License or Certificate:
Registered positions within this classification must possess registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. This position does not require registration.
Possession of an EIT is a plus.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license is required. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for a reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Selected candidate may be required to successfully pass a medical examination.
