The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to fill theTraffic Signal Engineer position. This is an Engineer Manager I position that is responsible for supervision of six traffic signal maintenance technicians. The position will involve direct maintenance, operational and decision-making duties and will also serve as a resource for technical questions for other operational, maintenance and deployment personnel. The Region 2 Traffic Signal Engineer will also guide the traffic signal maintenance program for 528+ traffic signals.
Principal Duties While primarily focused on signal maintenance, you will also work directly with the Traffic Management Division, Region 2, Local Municipalities and other stake holders in managing traffic signal maintenance & operations to ensure that the traffic signal program in Region 2 is world-class. Other major tasks include:
Managing traffic signal maintenance activities for Region 2 (528+ signals) to ensure that UDOT's traffic program is world-class and in compliance with UDOT standards and MUTCD requirements
Ensuring a high level of cooperation between the Traffic Management Division, Region 2, local Municipalities and other stake holders. Treating all stakeholders (both internal and external) as both a customer and a partner
Coordinating with project managers and permit officers to plan for traffic signal operations during construction, maintenance, and permit projects
Reviewing traffic signal designs from signal maintenance and operations viewpoint
Managing performance of proactive preventative maintenance
Managing inventory and asset management of traffic signals
Managing various performance measures for the traffic signal program
Managing the response to citizen complaints and suggestions
Responding to Government Records Access Management Requests (GRAMA requests) in a timely manner
Completing other duties as assigned
The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will:
Be registered as a professional engineer in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22
Have at least two years of engineering experience following licensure as a P.E.
Will have strong leadership, facilitation and organization skills
Must be registered as a professional engineer in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.
Must have at least 2 years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
