The Transportation Modeler Engineer is responsible for the development of citywide transportation models of the City of Virginia Beach utilizing computer simulation software. Representative work functions include performing alternatives analysis using computer modeling; conduct periodic studies and evaluations for the master street and highway plan; develops methodology for assessing fiscal impact of alternative transportation projects and policies in the City; and supports the Bikeways & Trails Plan as well as other active transportation needs.
This positions is classified as an Engineer III.
Highly qualified candidates would have experience in
Traffic modeling and engineering experience that includes transportation computer models such as TP +, Synchro, CORSIM, VISIM, TransModeler SE, and TransCAD;
Land use planning & transportation network planning;
Transportation Systems Management including private and commercial motor vehicles, transit, pedestrians, and bicycles;
Advanced analytical and technical report writing skills;
Knowledge of Metropolitan Planning Organizations and experience working with these organizations; and
Knowledge and experience with comprehensive and regional planning. '

Minimum requirements for the position is a Bachelor’s degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program, WITH possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license form the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) OR Associates Degree WITH seven (7) years of progressive experience of engineering level work, a Professional Engineer (PE) license form the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA)
