The Director of Accounting and Finance is responsible for overseeing the general accounting and financial reporting functions of the company. This includes implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position will directly supervise five staff in general and payroll accounting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, JOB DUTIES and COMPETENCIES:
Oversees the general accounting function, which includes inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, payroll, inventory management, fixed asset management and benefit management.
Yearend audit book preparation and review
Coordinate year end external audit
Annual budget and forecasting preparation
Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting their objectives and responsibilities as well as ongoing development.
Ensures that company financial records and reports are prepared in compliance with company policies and in accordance with GAAP
Supervises the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation.
Assists Corporate with dealing with tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements.
Manage steel surcharge inventory to ensure company is maximizing profitability regarding the pass through of this cost to our Customers.
Assist Human Resource department to ensure the accuracy of benefit administration.
Administer defined benefit and defined contribution plans of the company to ensure compliance with plan documents.
Identify and quantify financial and business risks; comment and make recommendations.
Quantify and analyze performance metrics; comment and make recommendations.
QUALIFICATION and EDUCATION:
Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, CPA and or CMA certification preferred.
Minimum 5 to 10 years of Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience.
Excellent communication skills required.
Good computer skills including Microsoft Suite with emphasis on Excel.
Prior management experience required
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting required.
Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.
