The Director is responsible for managing the Individual Retirement issues resolution process, leading process reengineering and risk mitigation activities, and serving as a quality/risk consultant to managers across the organization, who support approximately 2 million in-force fixed, index, variable and immediate annuity contracts with more than $100 billion assets under management. Reporting to the VP of In-Force Product Management, this individual will also be responsible for keeping senior leadership informed of the statuses of critical issues resolution and process improvement activities. The IDEAL candidate will have:
o 4-7 years Process Improvement and Project Management experience
o Quality Management Certification such as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
o Advanced degree desired
o Knowledge of annuities a plus
o Implement a more streamlined and holistic process that will cover all Individual Retirement issues to ensure they are identified, prioritized, assigned, tracked and resolved in an appropriate manner
o Collaborate with partners within the department and across the organization to facilitate timely resolution of issues and process improvement projects
o Establish a forum and provide leadership for a cross-functional issues resolution group
o Assemble, mobilize, and lead work teams through process reengineering and/or risk mitigation activities applying Lean, root cause analysis, and risk management principles, tools, and approaches
o Assess and prioritize opportunities, conduct current state process and risk analysis, determine base line performance or risk level, prepare end-to-end process maps, define end-state process views
o Work closely with business areas to identify, assess, and prioritize future process improvement and/or risk mitigation opportunities, define transition approach and implementation plans, and support implementation
o Apply Lean and risk management principles and tools during the project’s lifecycle
o As appropriate, challenge the business’ assumptions/beliefs in a professional manner as the team works to improve processes and/or mitigate risks
o Support and track implementation activities and validate results and benefits
o Serve as a change agent and coach for business areas to instill a culture of process improvement and risk awareness and mitigation
o Report the status of activities during the project’s lifecycle
o Prepare and deliver Lean and root cause analysis courses, materials, etc.
o Mentor staff to utilize quality tools when evaluating work processes
Proven track record of driving cross-functional strategic initiatives and leading process improvement and/or risk mitigation activities from start to finish.
o Experience with process mapping, data collection and analysis, formulating and recommending improvement opportunities, and validating end results
o Experience with assessing risk levels and developing mitigation strategies; Quality Management training or certification is preferred
o Experience with managing projects, project management training or certification is desired
o Bachelor degree – business, financial, or technical fields; advanced degree desired
o Must be able to build effective working relationships across the organization
o Comfortable in ambiguous situations and high urgency environments
o Comfortable challenging the business areas on process assumptions and steps throughout the redesign process and able to do it respectfully and professionally
o Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills leading to decisions based on factual data
o Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
o Ability to communicate information of a complex nature to senior management (both written and verbal) in easy to understand business language
o Ability to handle multiple projects and adjust work accordingly to meet delivery timelines commensurate with degree of financial risk and impacts involved
o Ability to mentor employees on deploying Lean, project management, root cause analysis, and risk management techniques
o Knowledge of technology to support efforts
o Excellent MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) Skills
o Self-starter, driven, ethical
o Ability to quickly adapt and adjust to change
