This position is responsible for maintaining our facility's internal and external appearance. The Custodian & Facilities Assistant cleans and maintains company facilities, including washrooms, conference rooms, offices and cubicles, carpets and flooring, furniture, walls, toilets, etc., to continuously promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Perform general custodial tasks including but not limited to; taking out the trash, tidying furniture, dusting surfaces, wiping mirrors and windows, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, washing and sanitizing toilets and sinks.
Organize and restock cleaning items such as disinfectants and other materials kept in storage.
Replenishes supplies in washrooms, such as hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper.
Maintain external premises by cleaning up trash and building entrances. May undertake additional weather permitting tasks such as shoveling snow from the sidewalk or salting the parking lot.
Prevent infestation of dangerous pests through proper pest control procedures.
Secure facility for after business hours by locking all doors, closing all windows and setting up the alarm system.
Respond to Facilities Help Desk tickets related to maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken light bulbs, fixing door handles, minor leaks, etc.) as assigned by the Facilities & Purchasing Manager.
Adhere to company's safety policies to create a safe work environment for everyone.
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent, required.
Proven experience as a custodian, janitor or similar role.
Careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises.
Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
Knowledge of safe disposal of cleaning chemicals and other hazardous components.
Familiarity with handyman practices and basic landscaping, preferred.
Familiarity with maintenance software, preferred.
Keen eye for detail and diligence in completing assigned work orders.
Very good physical condition and strength to cover a large facility.

Hours may vary and will include time outside of normal business hours
This position works in a standard office/laboratory environment
