Performs technical and administrative duties in support of the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include assisting civil engineers during the summer months with public works projects. Duties include: construction inspection and project design work, gathering schematic information, and performing other duties as assigned by the City Engineer.

 Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Performs field surveys for public works projects.
• Assists engineering staff with construction inspection and project design work.
• Prepares detailed drawings or sketches for various engineering projects.
• Gathers information from sewer and water schematic and quarter section maps.
• Prepares monthly reports and correspondence on assigned projects to be provided to the City Engineer.
• Promotes and maintains responsive employee, customer, and community relations.
• Assures the maintenance of safe work areas and equipment, promptly corrects work hazards, as necessary. Investigates and reports all work related injuries immediately, complies with all safety rules and attends appropriate safety programs.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the City Engineer.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Under General Supervision – Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Incumbents are not required to apply theory or to use their own judgment. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and dust. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. Work involves navigating on foot over uneven or slippery terrain, and working during inclement weather conditions.

SAFETY FUNCTIONS

• Becomes familiar with and observes all applicable safety and security policies/procedures.
• Immediately reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor.
• Reports all accidents to supervisor immediately.
• Obeys and adheres to all safety rules and work practices.

 SCHEDULE

This is a seasonal position. The selected candidates are expected to work full-time from approximately May 2021 through August 2021.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1. Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
