The Washington DC office of SmithGroup is looking for a Senior Plumbing Designer to join our team.
Working with us, you will:
Perform analysis, design and documentation of plumbing systems, laboratory and process piping and controls.
Lead in the plumbing engineering effort by applying engineering fundamentals to plumbing engineering design, typically in association with CAD or BIM input.
Produce and coordinate a complete set of construction documents on small to medium projects.
Visit construction sites as required for observation, answer contractor questions, or representing the owner in preparing punch lists.
Determine procedures to design, develop and document a project or system based on an evaluation of its unique needs and constraints.
Independently assess design requirements.
Coordinate and review the work of designers, and interns assigned to projects.
Mentor junior level staff and participate in performance coaching.
Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.
An ideal candidate has:
A high school diploma, general education degree (GED), or Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field from a technical school or college.
10 + years of experience with CAD/Revit and plumbing design.
Proficiency in current design software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, or other similar software.
The ability to discern and apply proper engineering design approaches to systems in a variety of building types.
Working knowledge of architectural concepts and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
Good communication and interpersonal skills with team members, consultants and clients.
LEED accreditation preferred.
Telecommuting is allowed.
