This is a position that reports directly to the Principal Civil Engineer/City Engineer and the Director of Public Works. Applicants must possess a valid Civil Engineering license (PE) in the State of California. It is preferred that the candidate have a minimum of fifteen years of professional civil engineering experience and have graduated from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil engineering and potentially a Master of Science (MS). The ideal candidate should have experience with engineering designs and construction of infrastructure projects, have CAD knowledge, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with others, and negotiation skills.

The City of Carson was incorporated as a California general law city on February 20, 1968. On November 6, 2018, with the City's voters’ approval, the City of Carson became a California chartered city. Carson is considered one of the youngest municipalities in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. Carson is located less than 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and is considered part of the South Bay section of Los Angeles County. The City of Carson is a dynamic City with multiple active residential and commercial development projects underway such as Fashion Outlet of Los Angeles (FOLA), Union South Bay Developments, Brandywine Residential Development, etc. We also are home to the Goodyear Blimp and the Porsche Experience, and the future site for the 2028 Olympics.
