Position Title: Senior Transmission Accountant
Reports To: Assistant Vice President of Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt
Basic Functions: Responsible for accounting support to American Municipal Power’s Transmission company (AMPT).
Essential Functions:
1. The Senior Transmission Accountant’s primary role is to provide accounting support for American Municipal Power’s Transmission company (AMPT). This support includes recording transactions for the monthly close, preparing GAAP financial statements as well as regulatory financial statements and filings. Other duties include variance analysis, ad hoc reports, and assisting with external audits. You will work as a liaison between the Transmission and Accounting Staffs providing guidance on asset capitalization, accounting classifications, and other accounting matters.
2. Perform day-to-day activities associated with the monthly financial close process ensuring financial transactions are recorded and reported accurately and timely.
3. Support AMPTs regulatory requirements including but not limited to the Annual Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Form 1, Actual Transmission Revenue Requirements (ATRR), and Preliminary Transmission Revenue Requirements (PTRR) filings.
4. Support AMPT staff with classifying transactions according to the FERCs uniform system of accounts, capitalizing assets, and other accounting related matters.
5. Work with various parties, both within Finance as well as other areas of the company, to accomplish goals, resolve issues and enhance and improve processes.
6. Support AMP and AMPT planning processes at the project and company levels.
7. Position may require you to work at times with minimal supervision, work overtime which may include weekends, and possibly travel on a limited basis.
Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
2. MBA and/or CPA preferred, but not required.
3. 5-7 years corporate or public accounting experience is required.
4. Previous experience in utility accounting especially electric transmission is preferred, but not required.
5. Knowledge of FERC’s Uniform System of Accounts, Transmission Rate Making process, and experience in Regulated Property, and General Accounting concepts is preferred, but not required.
6. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) codification is preferred, but not required.
7. Must demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership and communication skills.
8. Must be flexible and willing to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment; communicate effectively with all levels of the organization; and be a collaborative and strategic thinker with a strong financial leadership perspective and organizational agility.
9. Advanced knowledge and expertise using Excel and ERP systems with preference given to Oracle.
10. Expertise in a Sarbanes-Oxley internal control environment, compliance with and remediation of control deficiencies, regulatory accounting, and legal reporting requirements preferred.
