A day in the life:
Read and comprehend contract specifications to ensure contract compliance.
Check the quality of materials and reject any that do not comply with specifications.
Check bridge footing excavations and embankments for correct elevation and alignment and check alignments of all footings, beam seats, top of wall and deck.
Monitor traffic control for public safety and monitor construction sites for unsafe conditions.
Responsible for quality control documentation.
Prepare plans and specifications for minor to moderately complex projects and participate as a field designer on project development teams.
Research surveys, maps, deeds of ownership, field survey data and other pertinent data to determine the location of highway centerlines and the boundaries of highway ownership and adjoining private properties.
Work outdoors, in all weather conditions, 50% or more of the time and may require overnight travel and walking over rough terrain.

Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
A bachelor's degree in civil or transportation-related engineering.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience providing construction inspection on heavy civil projects.
Experience performing project development plan and specification review.
Experience or training that demonstrates interest in public service, construction or civil design.
Experience working positively and collaboratively with coworkers, managers, contractors and the public.
Experience working independently with limited supervision.
