Description The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Stony Brook University (SBU), invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track Empire Innovation Professor/Scholar (Associate Professor) position in Nanomedicine/Nanotechnology starting in the fall of 2023. The department values diversity and seeks candidates who can contribute to a welcoming climate for all students.
The primary responsibilities of the position include teaching, research, and service in Biomedical Engineering. They interact with students through office hours, BME events, and student-run organizations.
The successful candidate will be expected to build an independent, externally funded research program and excel at teaching and service.
Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with relevant research training and a demonstrated record of excellence in research, academic credentials, and extramural funding.
Experience developing novel Nanomedicine/Nanotechnology technologies for translational research. Experience collaborating with clinical investigators and scientists across the departments/institutions, such as the Stony Brook Cancer Center.

Department Description: BME at SBU is a highly interdisciplinary department with growing thematic areas including tissue engineering, biomaterials, bioimaging, regenerative medicine, and bionanotechnology; emphasizing collaboration with faculty from other disciplines including but not limited to Chemistry, Neurobiology and Behavior, Pathology, Medicine, Psychology, Physics, and Bioinformatics. The BME department is within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) as well as the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM), the largest academic medical center in Suffolk County, NY, home to 1.8 million people. Collaboration with Stony Brook Medicine provides access to numerous clinical populations and clinicians across many specialties.
SBU Campus Description: Long Island's premier academic medical center, Stony Brook Medicine, represents Stony Brook University's entire medical enterprise and integrates all of Stony Brook's health-related initiatives: education, research and patient care. This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
