General Description

The General Manager oversees the daily operation of the Power Commission, a public entity created under the Georgia Constitution, and develops and recommends short- and long-range plans, objectives, goals, and estimated budget to maintain adequate power supply, a sufficient physical plant, efficient operations methods, and sound fiscal management. 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

• Plans, negotiates, organizes, directs, and guides the management of all Power Commission functions to ensure the adequacy and reliability of the electric system
• Manages the financial and physical resources of the Power Commission
• Prepares an annual budget and manages the Power Commission’s resources within those budget guidelines
• Prepares short- and long-term power supply and financial forecasts
• Makes final determination on personnel issues including discipline, hiring, and termination
• Works with customers and staff to assist in resolving customer inquiries and complaints as needed
• Oversees the Power Commission pension plan
• Oversees the Power Commission health insurance plans
• Maintain strong relationships with the board of power commissioners and oversee board meetings, workshops, and strategic planning sessions. Advises and informs the board of power commissioners about the Power Commission’s operations and administration
• Develops and recommends policies and procedures to the board of power commissioners
• Represents the Power Commission on governmental and regulatory agencies, boards, councils, and commissions
• Represents the Power Commission in contracts with other governmental jurisdictions, regulatory agencies, contractors, and the general public
• Perform at public speaking events as requested
• Works regularly scheduled hours and additional hours as required
• Attends necessary training sessions, meetings, etc. which may include out-of-town and/or overnight travel
• As a public employee is responsible for maintaining good relations with the public served.
• Performs any other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Electrical Engineering is required but electric utility work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
