As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and managing complex transportation project for the City of Bellevue Transportation Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Prepare designs for roadway, pedestrian, bicycle, and intersection improvement projects. Elements include but are not limited to: roadway geometry, storm water systems, water transmission systems, natural drainage practices, earthwork, ADA ramps, pavement overlays, non-structural retaining walls, traffic signal systems, illumination, channelization and signing.
Prepares project plans, specifications, costs estimates, and construction contract bid documents.
Manages scope, budget, and schedule of assigned projects
Leads the project coordination between project team members, other City departments, and outside agencies
Coordinates with the Real Properties Division during the acquisition of property rights for assigned projects
Obtain environmental and construction permits for assigned projects
Provides engineering support for projects in construction
Participates in the public involvement process of assigned projects. This includes communicating with property owners, home owners associations, and making public presentations
Manages consultant agreements, monitors consultant’s progress and expenditures, and provides technical reviews of consultant’s deliverables
Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the Design Engineering Manager.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or other related fields
Two or more years of professional related experience in transportation design or traffic engineering
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods applicable to municipal transportation public works projects
Thorough knowledge and familiarity with the following (but not limited to) engineering references and resources:
Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT), Standard Specifications for Roads, Bridge, and Municipal Construction
WSDOT Design Manual, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG) Manual, Standard Plans, and Plan Preparation Manual
American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design standards
Federal Highway Administration Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
Transportation Research Board Highway Capacity Manual (HCM)
Federal Guidelines for ADA Design
Thorough knowledge and experience in developing engineering plans, specifications, cost estimate, and technical reports for transportation design projects
Thorough knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018, or later.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.
Thorough knowledge of and experience with BlueBeam.
Familiarity acquiring federal, state, and local agency permits for transportation projects and environmental documentation.
Ability to work independently with little supervision and also work in a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other agency representatives, City officials and the general public.
