The Owatonna Public Utilities (OPU) has an opening for an Associate Electric Engineer. This position is responsible for performing general engineering support tasks related to field engineering, maintaining engineering records/files, as-builts/GIS system records and assisting the coordination of new residential and commercial projects and services. Duties will include coordinating between the engineering, maintenance and construction, purchasing, stores and accounting departments within the utility on various projects and engineering tasks. This position assists the Electric Engineer in evaluating electric distribution system improvement needs and analyzing utility data to promote system efficiency, reliability and customer support. Other duties include performs field engineering, staking and inspections on the electric system and assists the Director of Engineering in promoting, establishing and modifying the electric engineering procedures, work processes, and standards to meet OPU goals and objectives.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other closely related degree is required.
Two (2) years electric or related work experience is desired.
Working knowledge of ESRI and AutoCad software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software programs is required.
Working knowledge of design code and construction specifications for electric installations is required. Ability to interpret construction/architectural plans is required.
Minnesota Class “D” Drivers License is required.
Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License in the State of MN is preferred.
