The Quality Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Quality System to assure that the products manufactured, and services provided meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The Quality Manager position is in a matrix organization reporting directly to the Plant Manager and dotted line to the Corporate Quality Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Lead by example in the practice of safe behaviors
Ensure Quality team members abide by company EHS policies/procedures and promote the EHS discipline throughout the organization
Works with Engineering and Program Management on advance quality planning of future programs and ensures that customer and supplier requirements are met through the customer approval process (PPAP) and ensures that all special characteristics identified during product development are monitored using statistical techniques throughout the manufacturing process.
Accountable and the plant lead for the quality system. Manages the internal audit schedule for IATF 16949. Ensures that the plant successfully implements and maintains certification for ISO 9001/IATF 16949.
Leads problem solving and timely completion of corrective actions, assists as needed to drive problem resolution and sustainable improvements
Manages and provides oversight for the supplier base for both purchased components and raw material. Drives quality continuous improvement post S.O.P., and Quality performance.
Owns the process for control of non-conforming material through material reviews, timely disposition of suspect product, and follow-up to drive corrective actions
Manages and owns the plant PPAPs
Participates in the APQP process
Ensures gage qualification, calibration, approval and control
Manages audits – customer, 3rd party, and internal – through scheduling, task assignments, preparation and required corrective actions.
Ensure process controls are effective, covering incoming inspection, first piece and in-process inspection, final inspection, and dock audits
Plan, promote, and organize training activities related to product and process quality
Manages and leads multiple Quality team members through assignments, performance appraisals, technical guidance and support as well as provide coaching and counseling
Interview and hire candidates for the Quality team to ensure staffing levels and skills are sufficient to accomplish facility and company goals/objectives.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standard, certification preferred
Problem Solving tools such as 8D, Cause and Effect diagram, 5Why other
Ability to effectively interface and communicate with customers
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Data collection and statistical analysis; Minitab preferred
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing/Operations.
Requires experience in metal manufacturing processes - casting, machining, other.
ASQ certification as CQM strongly desired.
Advanced problem-solving expertise in some of the following - 8D, Six Sigma, Kepner-Tregoe and other.
Requires 5 years as a Quality Manager or hands-on experience as a Manufacturing Quality Engineer with Supervisory responsibilities, with Tier One organizations. Experience must include practicing and implementing Quality Tools & Techniques in a manufacturing environment.
