The BME Department at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (bme.umich.edu) is a joint department between the College of Engineering and the Medical School. It harnesses intellectual and physical resources from across campus to create a world-class learning environment. Applications from individuals in all areas of biomedical engineering and related disciplines will be considered. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
Biomechanics – We are seeking candidates with experience in this field who are interested in building course content, modernizing lab modules, or creating new courses that help to solidify this core concentration in biomedical engineering. Opportunities are available to contribute at introductory or advanced levels, depending on interests.
Bioinstrumentation – We are seeking candidates with experience in this field who are interested in advancing our upper-level courses on bioinstrumentation and supporting our current courses in this space.
Biocomputation – We are seeking candidates with experience in this field to help us advance and deliver key courses in AI and machine learning in biomedical engineering.
The main responsibilities of this position are:
Teaching of biomedical engineering courses, with an emphasis on engineering fundamentals, biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, and/or biocomputation. Teaching load is expected to be up to 4 courses per academic year, and course assignments will depend on expertise and interest.
Contribution to curricular development and continuous improvement of the BME curriculum through departmental service and professional development.

The University of Michigan is an equal employment opportunity employer.
This position is planned at the level of Lecturer III and is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers’ Employee Organization. AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Applicants should have a PhD in engineering or the physical sciences, or a BS/MS degree with significant and relevant industry experience. Desired qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to teaching and education, as well as a strong motivation to improve the educational experience and engage students in experiential learning.
